The Great Books Foundation is an independent, nonprofit educational organization. For more than 50 years, the Foundation has helped people of all ages make the reading and discussion of literature a lifelong habit.

The Foundation's collaboration with Penguin Books is intended to support your book group in two ways:

• Provide expert discussion guides available at both the Penguin Books and Great Books Foundation Web sites. Great Books Foundation Discussion Guides will help focus your discussions while providing contextual information that facilitates your own ideas and interpretations.
• Recommend books that are especially suitable for discussion. In addition to the literature anthologies published by the Great Books Foundation, we also recommend Penguin Classics and Penguin editions of contemporary literature. Books that bear the Recommended for Discussion by the Great Books Foundation seal reward multiple readings and can sustain the kind of focused and extended sharing of ideas that is characteristic of good discussion.
