Register for the 54th annual Wachs Great Books Summer Institute at Colby College in Waterville, Maine from August 1 to 7, 2010. This year's theme will be "Cultural Collisions," and will feature all authors who are Nobel prize recipients. Readings include Life and Times of Michael K by J. M. Coatzee, The Golden Notebook by Doris Lessing, The Thief and the Dogs by Naguib Mahfouz, A Bend in the River by V. S. Naipul, The Lion and the Jewel by Wole Soyinka, as well as selected poems by Wislawa Szymborska, Seamus Heaney, Derek Walcott, Octavio Paz, and Pablo Neruda.
Registration fee is $525 and covers accommodation in a dormitory room (single or double), meals, discussions and books, as well as swimming, tennis, a film, group social activities, and a real Maine lobster bake. Commuter cost is $250, which includes lunches and the lobster bake. Registration deadline is July 1, 2010. $250 deposit is required with application. Books are sent upon receipt of your deposit.
