Great Books Chicago 2009: May 1-3, 2009

Great Books Chicago 2009, will take place May 1?3, 2009, at the Doubletree Hotel in Chicago?s Loop. The event's theme is  ?Eye of the Beholder.? Activities will include attending a performance of Twelfth Night at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater and a talk on "Ear of the Beholder," by Rick Phillips, former host and producer of CBC Radio's Sound Advice and current music history and appreciation professor at the Royal Conservatory of Music at the University of Toronto. In addition, the event will begin at the Art Institute of Chicago with a performance of Voices, a 50 minute presentation with professional actors portraying major artists accompanied by sound, lighting, and projection of art works. Mary Sue Glosser, creative director of lectures and performance programs at the Art Institute, will introduce the weekend's theme.

Planned readings are F. Scott Fitzgerald?s The Great Gatsby, selections from Loren Eiseley?s The Unexpected Universe, and Eudora Welty?s ?A Still Moment.?
