Great Conversations
Great Conversations is a successful series for continuing education groups.

"Readings in the Great Conversations series are well-chosen and thought-provoking." - Patrick DeMarco, Great Books moderator, Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, University of South Florida

From its beginning in 1947, the Great Books Foundation has been a leader in continuing education programs. Now, more than ever before, there is a wealth of opportunities to enroll in noncredit classes, often affilliated with colleges and universities. Many of these programs have found that Great Books discussion groups are a highly popular part of their curriculum.

Members of continuing education Great Books groups tell us that discussions focusing on our anthologies hold their interest and keep them coming back semester after semester. They often mention the strong, friendly bonds formed with other participants as they explore the works of some of the world's greatest authors, classic and contemporary, across a range of disciplines including literature, history, the sciences, politics, and philosophy.

Whether you are a participant in a continuing education program or an administrator looking for ways to enhance your curriculum, consider these reasons for starting a Great Books group:

  • Great Books groups are easy and inexpensive to set up. The Great Books Foundation not only publishes a wide variety of anthologies ideal for discussions, but also provides support material and advice to help leaders and participants get the most out of their sessions.
  • Great Books groups are self-sustaining and stable. People tend to reenroll each term, focusing on one of the many Great Books Foundation anthologies that appeals to their varied interests.
