A fresh and fiercely funny new four-hour adaptation of Jane Austen's comic masterpiece Emma will premiere on Masterpiece Classic in early 2010. A coproduction of WGBH and the BBC, the film will be broadcast on three consecutive Sundays, beginning January 24, 2010.
As an outreach partner for WGBH, the Great Books Foundation is proud to collaborate with our partner organizations and corporations to promote the viewing, reading, and discussion of this great Austen novel with public and private screenings and discussions of the book and movie.

Romola Garai (Atonement, Daniel Deronda) plays the "handsome, clever and rich" Emma Woodhouse, a headstrong young woman who dominates her small provincial world of Highbury. Misguidedly believing that she is a skilled matchmaker, Emma repeatedly attempts to pair up her friends, with dire results. Jonny Lee Miller (Endgame, Eli Stone) plays Mr. Knightley, Emma's shrewd and attractive neighbor, and Michael Gambon (Cranford) is her affectionate, neurotic father.
Coproducer with the BBC of this new version of Emma, WGBH is PBS’s single largest producer of content for television (prime-time and children’s programs) and the Web. Some of your favorite series and websites—Nova, Masterpiece, Frontline, Antiques Roadshow, Curious George, Arthur, and The Victory Garden, to name a few—are all produced by WGBH.
