Discussion Tips

Be patient

Students (and leaders) need time to consider ideas that come up in discussion. Lead slowly. It's all right to have pauses, silence, or moments of reflection. If you ask for new opinions before an idea has been explored and clarified, students won't be able to use that idea or decide whether they agree. As students see you carefully think an idea through, they will begin to adopt this same habit of mind.
