As the Covid-19 pandemic abates, we are eager to meet with you again in person to help you learn the Shared Inquiry™ method, so you can bring the joys of Junior Great Books® to your school or district. Now is the perfect time to schedule Shared Inquiry Essentials training so your teachers will be ready to implement Junior Great Books next school year. It’s also a great time to take stock of your existing program by scheduling in-person consultations with our expert trainers!

Shared Inquiry Essentials Training

The Shared Inquiry Essentials training empowers teachers with the tools they need to increase academic performance and student engagement while creating an inclusive environment—in the classroom or online. This course prepares educators to begin using the Shared Inquiry method of learning through reading and discussion with students at all levels. In this hands-on, interactive training, teachers will:

  • Learn questioning strategies that keep discussions lively and focused and improve students’ reading, critical thinking, and oral communication skills
  • Practice writing interpretive questions and using follow-up questions to involve students of all ages and proficiency levels
  • See how interpretive activities support student learning and meet state and district standards

The on-site course comprises 10 hours of training, with two 5-hour sessions of on consecutive days. You might also choose the blended option, which features six hours of in-person training and four hours of self-paced online modules.

Custom On-Site Consultation

Choose one or multiple days when our trainers will consult with your teachers to offer support where it is most needed. You can schedule on-site consultation days to:

  • Support teachers in getting started with Junior Great Bools, through having a trainer co-lead Shared Inquiry discussion with them or do a demonstration discussion with their classes
  • Re-energize an existing Junior Great Books implementation by bringing teachers together to observe each other as the lead discussions; then discuss strategies with the Great Books trainer
  • Expand a Junior Great Books implementation into more grade levels, student groups, or subjects, with a Great Books trainer observing and giving targeted suggestions for the plan
  • Identify teacher leaders who can coach newer staff members and equip those teacher leaders with the skills needed to mentor their colleagues in the Shared Inquiry method
