Shared Inquiry Introductory Training with Great Books Programs
Strong inquiry-based instruction has been proven to engage all students at higher levels of reading and thinking. The Shared Inquiry Introductory training empowers teachers with the tools they need to increase academic performance and student engagement while creating an inclusive environment—in the classroom or online. This training prepares educators to begin using the Shared Inquiry method of learning through reading and discussion with students at all levels and is designed to support implementation with Great Books materials for grades K-12.
In this hands-on interactive implementation course, experienced trainers model and teach the Shared Inquiry method and help educators learn:
- The importance of selecting complex texts
- What types of questions support each Shared Inquiry objective
- Close-reading activities
- How to lead a student-driven Shared Inquiry discussion
- How to assess student performance with our critical thinking rubric
- How to plan an effective implementation
Cost and Format
- SIE Online Training (T-110WEB) includes 6 hours of live, online instruction and 4 hours of self-paced online learning
- Course fee is $120 – $250 per person, depending on enrollment
- SIE Online Training Plus (T-112WEB) includes 6 hours of live, online instruction, 4 hours of self-paced online learning, PLUS 2 hours of follow-up online
- Course fee is $144 – $300 per person, depending on enrollment

Our team of educational consultants will work closely with you to customize the best ongoing professional development plan to meet your goals and help you stay within your budgetary guidelines.
Our coaching helps teachers get the most out of Shared Inquiry training and materials and be more confident in the classroom. Our online coaching and 1:1 consultation sessions cover such topics as:
- Online coaching, modeling, and co-teaching
- One-on-one feedback and goal setting
- Curriculum development, mapping, and lesson planning
- Adapting to remote or blended learning
- Raising engagement and quality of thinking

- Other customized topics
Online Coaching Fees
- Single 2-hour* session: $500 per session
- Nine to twenty 2-hour* sessions: $475 per session
- Twenty-one or more 2-hour* sessions: $450 per session
*one-on-one or cohort of up to five people
Online Classroom Modeling
Great Books online classroom modeling supports teachers in a collaborative environment. Our expert instructors model Shared Inquiry lessons and support teachers and students with their Shared Inquiry implementations.
Teachers who participate in online classroom modeling will:
- Observe our experts using Shared Inquiry instruction in an online or blended classroom
- Learn the art of inquiry-based questioning and facilitation
- Practice and build on their skills through observation, co-leading discussions, and reflection
Each classroom modeling session includes:
- 1 hour with Great Books instructor, teacher, and class
- One 1-hour session for 15 students, or
- Two half-hour sessions for 30 students
- 45 minute pre- or post-session between teacher and instructor
- Materials for specific grades and themes*
*Some grades and themes may require an additional materials fee per person.
Online Modeling Fees
- Four 1-hour sessions: $1,500
- Eight 1-hour sessions: $2,600

We also offer volunteer leader training for parents and other volunteers conducting Great Books programs. This live webinar covers the essentials of Shared Inquiry and prepares volunteers to lead discussions with students. The live webinar is 4 hours over two days for only $99 per person.
