Talking Service Update
Talking Service, the Great Books Foundation’s nationwide reading and discussion program for veterans, completed a two-year pilot in December, supported by a generous grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. During the pilot, the program was implemented in 14 states at 46 host sites and reached over 500 participants in small discussion groups focusing on outstanding literature about military service from GBF’s anthology, Standing Down: From Warrior to Civilian. As we move into 2017, GBF is committed to extending the reach of Talking Service and our efforts will benefit from all that we learned about its audiences during the pilot.
The mission of the Great Books Foundation is to advance the critical, reflective thinking and social and civic engagement of readers of all ages through Shared Inquiry™ discussion of works and ideas of enduring value.
