The Virginia Board of Education has approved Junior Great Books as a supplemental reading comprehension program for grades 3–8. In addition to boosting reading comprehension, we believe regular use of Junior Great Books® boosts all the major ELA skills. Plus, JGB meets the tenets of the science of reading by improving reading fluency and vocabulary, as well as comprehension.
Students who participate in Junior Great Books programs learn to:
- Read and understand texts more fully
- Listen, respond, and collaborate with others
- Confidently state their own ideas and back them up with evidence from the text
- Express their ideas in writing
